On Sunday, April 15th I had my first look at the beautiful campus of VT as my wife, daughter and I attended Hokie Focus in preparation for my daughter starting class as a freshman this August. I had just become the member of a close knit family, those students, parents, and alumni that call VT home. Little did I know that less than 24 hours later my family would suffer such pain and anguish. My heart weeps for each and every member of my new family as we try and comprehend the loss, and yet I take solace in the strength of my family and the knowledge that we will persevere.
My thoughts are with you all.

The students, staff, administration and community of Ellicott School District 22 want to express our sincere condolences for the tragic events of Monday, April 16, 2007. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Virginia Tech family and community. Words are not available to express the loss of human potential which occurred and must now be borne by the country and world. As a public school district, we are acutely aware of how quickly tragedy may strike and that none of us are immune to the seemingly senseless acts which occur all too often. To All Family and Friends,
I did not know any of the people who needlessly lost their lives in this tragedy. But I do want all of the families and friends of these beautiful people to know that my heart goes out to you. As a parent of a child who will be going to college in just 1 year, I cannot imagine having to lose him. Please know that I pray that God brings you the peace and comfort that you need to get through what is a very painful time. If I could give each of the family and friends a hug and a kind word personally I would. My thoughts are with all of you - God Bless and please know the Lord has your loved ones in his arms.

My heart is breaking for all of the people who so tragically lost someone they loved. This kind of tragedy touches each one of us in the very soul because of the randomness. The senselessness. I am so very very very sorry for each and everyone of the victims, survivors and family members, please know for what it’s worth, how truly sad my family and I are for each of you.
May the Peace of God be with us all…

We are so sorry for what has happened to all of you. Don’t let this horrible act of hatred extinguish the hope you all have for the future. Let your light shine even brighter in the wake of this injustice. That is the best way to set an example for future generations to come. You should all be very proud of yourselves, your community and your school. Each of you has conducted yourselves with dignity and class. I am so proud of you.
